CALGON TAKE ME AWAY....

Today has been one of those days. After babysitting, I took Kyle and Davis to the orthodontist and found out they will both need braces. Neither one need them right away, but Kyle does need some work done now. First he'll need a rapid palatal expander placed in his mouth. Which I'll get to turn the key to expand his palate. Then he'll get upper braces (on 4 teeth) and lower braces (on 4 teeth) and be given a reverse pull headgear to wear every night to bed for a year (for his underbite class 3). Here's a picture of Dakota Fanning sporting this headgear Kyle will be wearing.

Not too bad and it's only at night. I was totally picturing the headgear that poor girl had to wear in "16 Candles." Remember her trying to get a drink out of the drinking fountain? Thank goodness Kyle's actually excited about all of this. I'm just seeing dollar signs and stress. Oh, and then he gets to wear a retainer until it's decided when he'll get full braces. Yay! I'm just thankful that we have the best orthodontist helping us!

Anyway, I get home from that, try to explain it all to Mick, then he asks me if I've checked the courthouse message to see if I have to report to jury duty tomorrow, which I hadn't. Guess what?! I have to report to jury duty tomorrow morning. So, I have to frantically call around to find somewhere for Bennett to go. And thankfully Brenda saved me and he'll have a play date with Landon. Thanks Brenda.

Oh, and while I'm checking to see if I have to report tomorrow, I have a "beep" through from my brother-in-law's attorney wanting to talk with me and Mick tomorrow. All the while kids are going crazy, tv's loud, computer's loud, etc. Aaaaaaah. I'm so hoping tomorrow's a lot less eventful.

Matthew had an underbite also and had the spreader appliance also. The key that you use is horrible. He would gag whenever I tried to adjust his appliance. A friend had a different tool to use that was more like a popscicle stick with a metal hook that moves that her orthodontist used. She got me one from her orthodontist. It worked wonders. It made it so easy. I was so amazed at how quickly it worked on Matt.
Matt's first orthodontist was going to do the reverse headgear also, but when we changed to a different orthodontist, he didn't think it would be necessary. As it turned out the appliance did the trick. He now has a perfect bite and straight teeth. He just got all the metal taken out of his mouth. He looks so great. His dentist is saying he might need braces but it will be determined by how he grows as he becomes a teenager. I am hoping that we are done and that by doing this prevenative work on his bite that it corrected the problem.
My only piece of advice. Ask the orthodontist about a different tool to move the appliance.

And just this past summer, Allie also needed to have the same appliance put on her teeth but not for an underbite. She has the appliance on the top and bottom(Matt's was just on the top). So we are getting pretty used to remembering to move the appliance every couple days.
Good luck. It will be so fun for you to see his teeth move and hopefully take care of the problem.

Oh man. Aren't kids fun?...and expensive... Good luck with jury duty. I keep wondering when I'll get called, since I don't have the excuse of being in school anymore!

Jory gets his braces in Nov. and Kylie is close to getting hers off. I'm so excited to see my million dollar smile! I had jury duty last month and went in twice. Luckily the trial was called a mistrial. Interesting, but hard with kids.

Jury duty is an amazing process, if your single, unemployed and don't have kids. Otherwise, it can be a little tricky.

That mouth gear looks very interesting. As a kid i would have done anything to have braces.

Val had an expander too, you can ask her how she liked it. I had a retainer and I need to get a nightguard.. I am a clencher!

I hate crazy days like this, although they do make life interesting. I cannot believe Kyle is excited for all of that. You are lucky about that. Have fun at jury duty!

I had to have a palatal expander when I was young. The most important thing is to get a water pick! Food got stuck up there like crazy and that was the only thing that would get it out!
